Marwan al-Muasher is a Jordanian diplomat and politician with a distinguished career in international relations. He has held several key positions in the Jordanian government and has made significant contributions to peace negotiations and policy-making in the Middle East.

With over 30 years of international experience, spanning the areas of diplomacy, development, civil society, and communications in the Middle East and around the globe. An adaptive strategic leader, a dynamic change agent and a strong troubleshooter with a proven tack record in assessing and managing complex situations. Highly skilled in developing strong relationships across cultures and to provide decisive team leadership and structure.

Marwan al-Muasher began his career as a journalist, working for the Jordan Times, the country’s only English-language newspaper. He then transitioned into government service, working in communications and serving as a press adviser in the prime minister’s office. He also held the position of director of the Jordan Information Bureau in Washington, D.C.

In 1995, following the Israel-Jordan peace treaty, al-Muasher became Jordan’s first ambassador to Israel. He played a crucial role in fostering diplomatic relations between the two countries. He later served as Jordan’s ambassador to the United States from 1997 to 2002, during which he played a key role in negotiating the Jordan-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.

In 2002, al-Muasher returned to Jordan to serve as the country’s foreign minister. During his tenure, he played a central role in developing the Arab Peace Initiative and the Middle East roadmap. In 2004, he was appointed as deputy prime minister, where he continued to advocate for political, economic, and social reforms in Jordan. He developed the National Agenda, a comprehensive reform plan for the country, which unfortunately faced obstacles in implementation.

Al-Muasher’s expertise in international affairs led him to serve as the senior vice president of external affairs at the World Bank from 2007 to 2010. Currently, he holds the position of vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, overseeing research on the Middle East from both Washington, D.C., and Beirut, Lebanon.
