Master Sergeant Israel “DT” Del Toro’s remarkable journey of survival began on a treacherous mountainside in Qalat, Afghanistan, where his life took an unexpected turn. When his Humvee struck a concealed landmine, DT suffered extensive third-degree burns covering 80 percent of his body and lost fingers on both hands in the blast. However, fueled by love and the unwavering support of his family and fellow Air Force comrades, he was determined to keep the promise he made – to be there for his three-year-old son, even in the face of adversity.

DT’s incredible resilience and unwavering determination have earned him recognition, including the prestigious Pat Tillman Award at the 2017 ESPYs.
