Dr. Adalja is a dynamic Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security, where he passionately explores the realms of emerging infectious diseases, pandemic preparedness, and biosecurity. His expertise is sought after in various capacities, including his role as an expert reviewer for the National Quality Forum’s Infectious Disease Standing Committee, where he previously served as a member.
His commitment to public health is exemplified by his deployment to Haiti with the US Department of Health and Human Services’ National Disaster Medical System following the devastating 2010 earthquake, as well as his selection for their mobile acute care strike team. Dr. Adalja has played a pivotal role on US government panels, shaping guidelines for the treatment of botulism and anthrax in mass casualty scenarios, and developing systems of care for infectious disease emergencies. He also lends his expertise as an external advisor to New York City Health and Hospital Emergency Management’s Highly Infectious Disease training program and contributes to a FEMA working group focused on nuclear disaster recovery.
As a distinguished Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American College of Physicians, and the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Adalja is not only a leader in his field but also an active practitioner of infectious disease, critical care, and emergency medicine in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. His dedication extends to serving on the City of Pittsburgh’s HIV Commission and the advisory group of AIDS Free Pittsburgh, where he continues to make a significant impact on public health initiatives.
