New York Times & International Bestselling Author | Highly Decorated F-16 Combat Pilot | Leadership, Resilience & Global Affairs
Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Dan “Two Dogs” Hampton is a New York Times and international bestselling author, highly decorated U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, and one of the most experienced combat aviators of his generation.
Across four wars and 186 combat missions, Hampton has operated in environments where preparation, judgment, adaptability and leadership carried extraordinary consequences.
His remarkable career spans decades of transformation in warfare—from conventional fighter operations and the integration of space-based targeting to remotely operated drones, rapidly evolving technology and the changing realities of modern combat.
But perhaps the most extraordinary chapter of Hampton’s story came nearly two decades after he had left the fighter cockpit.
At 61 years old, after nearly two decades away from fighter aviation, Hampton prepared himself physically and mentally to return to the cockpit and fly F-16 combat missions in Ukraine.
His extraordinary return poses a question that reaches far beyond aviation or the battlefield:
What are you still capable of?
At some point in our lives and careers, we begin making assumptions about what is behind us—what opportunities have passed, what abilities we may have lost, which challenges belong to a younger version of ourselves, or whether our greatest accomplishments have already happened.
Hampton’s story challenges those assumptions.
Returning to combat wasn’t simply returning to something he had done before. His body was different. The technology was different. The battlefield was different. The world was different.
Experience gave him an extraordinary foundation—but experience alone wasn’t enough.
He had to adapt, retrain, prepare and prove that he could still perform when the consequences were real.
For corporate leaders and organizations navigating disruption, uncertainty and change, Hampton’s experience provides a powerful perspective on:
✅ Reinvention — refusing to allow the past to define future capability
✅ Resilience — rebuilding the mental and physical capacity to perform
✅ Adaptability — knowing when experience serves us and when changing circumstances demand a new approach
✅ Discipline — preparing long before the moment of consequence arrives
✅ Decision-Making Under Pressure — maintaining clarity when the stakes are highest
✅ Peak Performance — discovering what remains possible when perceived limits are challenged
What Are You Still Capable Of? transforms Hampton’s extraordinary return to combat into a universal exploration of leadership, longevity, resilience, reinvention and human potential.
Hampton flew 186 combat missions across four wars, building a career at the intersection of combat aviation, leadership and technological innovation.
During the first Gulf War, Hampton became the first pilot to integrate space-based assets with jet fighters in combat, helping pioneer a new era of precision targeting and real-time intelligence gathering.
His experiences over Baghdad—where enemy positions could be targeted from space and information fed directly into fighter cockpits—demonstrated the rapidly evolving relationship between technology, intelligence and combat aviation.
Hampton also envisioned and designed a system improvement that transformed targeting capabilities by integrating radar-emission detection equipment with onboard F-16 targeting pods. The system enabled mobile enemy positions to be targeted instantaneously using weapons carried by the F-16, regardless of environmental conditions or time of day.
Throughout his career, Hampton remained at the forefront of technological change—from flying combat missions accompanied by drones during the second Gulf War to working alongside CIA drones remotely operated from Langley in operations against terror cells in the Middle East.
Historic Return to Combat — Ukraine
From January 2025 through March 2026, Hampton returned to the F-16 and combat operations in Ukraine at the age of 61—nearly two decades after leaving the fighter cockpit.
His return marked his fourth war and required extraordinary physical preparation, mental discipline and adaptability.
Hampton’s combat record includes 21 confirmed kills against surface-to-air missile sites in previous conflicts and four air-to-air kills in Ukraine.
His return to combat has led to an application for inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records, a distinction currently under review.
Hampton’s military decorations and training include:
